I wanted to have Mt. Pilatus just like a fake line in the background but stil preserve the sharpness and clarity of the tree. Using the tele always results in diminishing the depth and so I tried to re-enhance it by different focus *and* light of the gront an the background. It worked well shooting on a foggy day, zooming at about 150mm, and underexposing a little bit, though the composition is not very good, for me at least. Any ideas, how it could have been made better?
Thank you so much, Joe, for the very detailed comment and all the ideas!
What I wanted to convey was no more than the limited sight, the solitute, and that kind of being exposed to the elements somewhere up there. You know, when the paths start to disappear and you just keep on going. The normal state of the long distance mounaineer, if you wish.
Undoubtfully a more spectacular photo would be immediately captivating the eyes of the spectator, but there are also the more "silent" ones that do their work in one's mind more slowly but not less strongly after the first impression.
Nonetheless, many more of those more spectacular mountains photos will follow, but for me a foggy mountain where the washed out clouds almost touch the ground is also a very attractive subject to capture. Especially whgen capturing it from the "inside" - I hope you understand what I mean.
Hi Nick, not sure if I understand your objective for this image. Here's my thoughts. For the most part a tree is a tree, everyone has one, but a lotoof us don't have mountains and landscapes like that. I think the mountains have to be the focal point of the shot. Sure you can use soft focus, fog etc. to set a mood but with the tree so dark and infocus it takes your attention away from the landscape. Unfortunately, the sky is not very interesting. I think it would be good, if possible, to play up the different lighting of the two peaks. You can see it a bit here. The far peak seems to be catching the light more than the near one. Exploiting that might result in more interesting and attractive shot. One last thing, I feel the power lines at the bottom right distract from the image. I suspect composing the image differently from a different location could result in much different result. Hope you don't mind my rambling. It's just my thoughts and opinion. Have a great day.
