I do break the rules from time to time, sometimes intentionally. :) There are several techniques you can use to help line up the horizon but it does depend somewhat on what photo editing software you have. Some have the option of bring up ruled lines or grids, some have optional displays of scales on the horizontal and vertical axes. Even without those, most allow you to create an object or line that can be moved around and used as a measuring benchmark for distance from the top or bottom of the picture. And then there is eyeballing which often works as well. This picture is very close to perfect and only looks a bit more off than it really is because of the illusion created by the sun. --Jan

Hi Jan !! Thank You for your kind comment --
Yes-- there were seagulls at the shoreline ...
You break the rule of horizontal seascapes ? I didn't know that !!! But I am sure YOU do it on purpose-- I didn't !!! Thanks for pointing it out to me. If the color is not the same on both sides of the horizon I seem to have a problem getting it straight--I don't know how to measure it:( I've just been lucky in the passed by eye-balling it . I appreciate your comments very much !!
--Best Wishes, Michele~

Michele -- I may be color blind but I know "gold" when it jumps out and bites my big nose. Love the color cast. Are those dark specks in the foreground birds??? Since I break the rule of horizontal seascapes I won't say anything about the half degree tilt. :) :) --Best to you, Jan
