About A view of part of the Santa Monica Pier taken from another part of the pier. This place is all built on wood poles holding up the pier and all these rides and buildings, scary thought when you think about standing out here. The pier open Sept 9, 1909 after 16 months construction. The pier was 1600 feet long, all wood when it first opened. The amusement attractions were added by Charles Looff who developed Coney Island's carousel in Brooklyn, NY, he moved his operations to Long Beach in 1910. The pier lost 100,000 square feet off the end in 1983 from storms--yes we do get them in Los Angeles sometimes. The pier is also the end of historical Route 66. Greeting Marlyce,
you accoumplished what you wanted in the photo and thats all that matters, my only other suggestions would be to include a bit more of the water and zoom out a little more (if possible)you might have moved to the right a bit more, this way you could have maniplited your scenery to get all the features you wanted as well as get the ferris wheel off center. For me the building does not add that much interest to the photo where as the subject is the pier. Its a good photo and i enjoyed the detail of the peir.
Best Regards, Sandra

Have to agree with AJ, the full pano view is quite a treat...so much to see Marlyce! Wonderfully composed...with the bright blue and the mural on the building I understand why you chose to center the ferris wheel. Excellent clarity and color also...a real pleasure to view.

Take care...Robin

Yes, Marlyce.
I lived in San Diego and then Long Beach for several years, and most recently brought the family here in 2001.

Thank you Sandra for commenting. I did look at the ferris wheel, however I also wanted the whole building on the right (not just the partial building that is hidden by the pier) and I wanted the whale mural on the left. So I did not have much choice on the centering. I had hoped that having the riders in the top of the roller coaster would offset the centering of the ferris wheel.

A beautiful and colorful image Marlyce.... Perfect exposure, clarity , details , and composition... Very nicely done-- I enjoyed and appreciated your 'about' as well.... I sure do love Santa Monica - it's gorgeous and this is a happy mood of it at the Pier :)) 7/7

It's in the full pano format that this really bursts into life! It gives the viewer the chance to explore the pier and hunt out the details. A very good subject for this format, and lovely bright colours too.
