Hi dear Mary,
Thanks, I hope you could move your head back in the right position afterwards (lol). These birds are great to shoot and it can be done from a rather short distance. I think this was some 3 till 5 meter.

Hi Sascha,
To give you an idea of the 500 mm with tripod, I added an older shot of a small serie of this bird. It are 3 shots: landing, taking off and flying. For this shot I put the camera at free move horizontal and vertical and released the shutter by hand. As you can see this brings to poor quality.

Dear Albert, I know what you are talking about. I tried not so long ago, to catch an eagle as he was flying arround. So I took my 300mm lens and I went on the hunt. I can tell you after 10 Minutes I couldn't hold the camera anymore, because the Lens was too heavy. When you say you use a 500mm lens, I can imagine that it is more difficult to even get the bird in the frame, so that you can take a good shot. I also agree taking shots with tripod is not worth it. It must look very funny if you do so. ;) I sure think a converter would work quite good but you have to think about the extra exposure time. And don't forget, getting the BIRDY in the right framing is surely not easy either with a long tele lens. But I bet you will give it a try and let us know abour the result. Never the less, I wih good luck for the next experiment shot. Best wishes my friend. Greetings Sascha

Hi dear Sascha,
Thanks, your're right this was no easy catch. It took me quite some shots, but finally I managed more or less. To get a moving subject sharp when it moves towards you is indeed quit difficult. So I'll exercise this again next time, because I want to get control of this. These fast moving birds are a great challenge for this. I have used the 18-200 mm for these shots. I also have a Sigma 50-500 mm. The last one is a great objective for tripod use but not for action shots (to heavy). So I am thinking to change this 50-500 mm (that I don't use much) to realise something light of about 400 mm suitable for action shots. Maybe the 200 mm with a good converter ? I am still puzzling on it.

Very nice series of Gull shots. This one is the best in my point of view, Stunning moment as you have captured this fellow. Catching this flying bird by getting his head as the sharpest point is surely not easy. I guess it took several shots to get such a image. Very nice done my friend. Greetings Sascha

Hi dear Michele,
Thanks for your kind comment. This was my first time trying this kind of shots. The - higher quality compilation - you find on page 2 of my portfolio. When I go back to Texel I try this type of shots again. Maybe with a better result ?

Hallo Luc,
Vriendelijke groet, Albert Jacobs

Zeer goede actiefoto. Net afgedrukt op 't juiste moment en nog tamelijk scherp ook.
