When you do see a Piliated Woodpecker, you will know for sure. They are about 4 times bigger than the others. They have that crazy Woody Woodpecker laugh! They go crazy at our cottage after a thunderstorm in the heat. They dive head on into rotton stumps trying to dig up the bugs. I'm going to be ready with my camera next time this happens :) Andre

Yes Sir, we do have those 3 species in California, but I have never seen the Pilated. Occasionally I see the other 2 species that you mentioned but they are hard to shoot. Acorn Woodpecker is the easiest and Rancho San Antonio is the best place to photograph them. Yamil

Hi again Yamil. Quite a difference between your Woodpeckers and ours here in Ontario. Do you have the Hairy, Downy and Pileated Woodpeckers in California too? Andre

Hi Yamil, Another wonderful avian photo!!!The clarity is exceptional, the lighting perfect. I love the composition and the gorgeous tones, from the beautiful feathers to the rough tree bark and lastly the smoothness of the background. A truly superb picture!!! 7++++++++++++++
