Thirty of the best hot air balloon pilots will be on hand to battle it out in the air during the 5th annual MidFirst Ohio Challenge hot air balloon competition at Middletown’s Smith Park on July 20-21-22, 2007.
The competition is a Balloon Federation of America sanctioned event which allows pilots to gain points toward their national ranking. The top 100 pilots, based on points earned in events such as the MidFirst Ohio Challenge, are then invited to compete in the annual U.S. Hot Air Balloon Nationals, an event held in Middletown 1992, 1993 and 1994. Winner of the national competition goes on to compete in the world hot air balloon event.

Gorgeous Larry. The composition and detail are perfect. Beautiful colour.
Coming home from Mum and Dad's the other week, we saw about fourty cars with trailers carrying balloon baskets, going in the other direction. I was itching to follow them and snap some shots but as it was late afternoon I figured they would not be heading up until the next morning. Drats!!! Lucky you!
