The orange planetoid in the center, is a pollen granule seen in polarized light at microscope. The rest, is photo manipulation. Including the terrestrial moon, added for comparation.
On the base of this picture is a image of a pollen granule, taken at microscope with polarized light. In this images, the background is usualy black or almost black (easily to make it black by changing the contrast) see for example: http://www.usefilm.com/Image.asp?ID=1348716 Starting from this black background, it came the idea of photo manipulation as a cosmic photo. All the rest are filters in Adobe Photoshop.
