Thanks for the comments regarding what this flower is called. I did a little research. The term "Rose of Sharon" apparently applies to more than one species of flower. The name has it's origin in the Bible. Looking in flower web sites I came up with the following photo which if not identical is a very close cousin. It was listed as "Mollybee" variety of "Rose of Sharon" I have concluded that the name has been applied to more than one kind of flower. Thanks for your comments. Del.

Obviously I don't know that much either - and I too love to look at them, photograph them and receive them. Maybe these were cousins many moons ago. I just looked up Rose of Sharon also and discovered that it is a variety of hibiscus called cyriacus or Shrub Althaea. See how much we can learn from photography. Have a good one - find some more pretty flowers to shoot and get them uploaded. Too hot here - not many interesting floral growing this time of year in the Phoenix, AZ area. Whew!

Thanks for the comment. Yes these are much like Hollyhock flowers but these were on a shrub rather than a stalk. I did just look up Rose of sharon and did find this flower among various varieties shown. I am not very knowledgeable on flowers. I just like to look at them.

I have always known these as a Hollyhock - they grow on an upright stalk to about 9 feet tall, and the flowers bloom from bottom to top of each plant. They come in a variety of colors - white, pink, red, purple, creamy yellow, and apricot. As the latin name in Althaea rosea it is probably also know as the Rose of Sharon depending on where you are from. In any event this is a nice capture and sure brings back memories of my younger days. The hollyhock is a real old fashioned favorite.
