Ion Creangă (1837—1889) is born on the 1st of March in Humulesti. Others consider the 10th of June as his day of birth. This hesitation is due to a lack of a document attesting the writer's birth. He will spend his childhood in his native village and its surroundings, which will inspire him in writing his masterpiece, Memories of my Boyhood. Smart and nasty, as he describe himself on in Amintiri din copilarie (Memories from childhood), Nica goes to the church school, Vasile of Iloaiei being his teacher, him who will be taken to army by force. The school is in a little chamber made by the paesants at the stimulus of the vicar Ion Humulescu. The permanent visitors arrived today in Humulesti are seeing not only the museum from the little house, but also the church and the way to Ozana where Ionica have several times bathed. Beside his masterpiece, Amintiri din copilărie (Childhood memories), some of his most famous stories are Moş Ion Roată şi Unirea, Dănilă Prepeleac, Povestea porcului, Fata babei şi fata moşului and Ivan Turbincă. He retired as a teacher in 1887 and died two years later, on 31 December, from an attack of epilepsy.
