About Ok, those of ya familiar to me know I like history... more than most. I also buy (purchase) history books every chance I can. I do not care what state they are in... I love the old works. I picked this one up for a dime (.10 cents Yank, 11.7 Yen, .11 Down Under, .049 Pounds, .54 Weegie, .098 Kanuck) Yep, that's all I payed for it. Yes, the writing is tilted and provincial... but the old books are fascinating to read. The publishing date on this one is 1916. So, I looked at the last few pages. Seems at the time of publishing, the Great War was still in doubt. Wonderful stuff for a history teacher to use in the classroom.

KEKEKEKEKE....JF88EHURHU...great stuff. Yes! I followed the link and read the comments. Bloody great stuff... I am NOT a great fan of teams (The Cubs are what I follow because I love baseball in general) but you have written great things about simple issues. Funny stuff the typo and all... and still, you made the point clear.
And no... I didn't mean the typeset... I meant the thought and content of the book... but I do believe you picked up on that.

The Cubs were wiped out in the first round...
Wait till next year!!!!

And as always (and lately...you seem to be talking/writing a great deal) wonerful to hear from ya. A gem among the weeds....

That's what ya are.

By tilted and provincial I thought you meant the type set!
Always good to read a historian who lays their cards on the table.
I've a volume of Auden I treasure published by random house "manufactured under emergency conditions and complies with the governments request to conserve essential materials in every possible way."
And he hadn't withdrawn "spain" yet.
Hows cubs. The allblacks got knocked out. Things got very ugly.
I had to write a letter to "The Times" defending my nations honour.
They deleted two of my comments but one is down the bottom of the page.
HIn one aside he said the allblacks poached players from other countries. Wiping communities of hundreds of thousands of pacific island immigrants (such as Mangere where I grew up) off the map with one jibe.
Not exactly what he was saying but it was war so I misinterperetted him right back to make a stir. Basically what he is saying is "greed is good"
Imagine that, I wrote a letter to the times! Sounds like a monty python sketch!
Except It had a bloody typo!
Here it is sans typo,
"First, the allblacks will not return to scorn and derision because we remember how well they've played these past three years.
Yes the journalistic campaign against Ireland was shameful, as is this ode to whatever corporation sponsors your club competitions this year.
I'd take your enjoyment of our fantasized haemmorage of talent seriously if I hadn't remembered your are a humanitarian who'll spend "a happy hour or two" discussing the plight of the ghurkas over guiness with lawyer friends in Calais.
I grew up in Mangere, South Auckland with a number of pacific islanders the allblacks "stole".
International rugby meand cultural exchange to us and not just
a sponsored 80 minutes on the telly.
I walked past a pub called the barry john a hundred times and can not tell you how many times I was lectured that Mike Gibson was the greatest centre that the world has ever seen.
We have been honoured in New Zealand by our relationships with the home nations in the past, your article misrepresents the the history of international rugby , the life of pacific island people in New Zealand and dishonours any Irishman I have ever met (certainly doesn't sound like one), and probably, Mark, your own experience, but you are writing as if your career and livelihood depends on it, and shows only what you are made of."
Here is the times article, my comments at the bottom somewhere

Weegie is my endearing term I use for those from Norway... The Norwegians. (Weegies I think I made it up) They trade in the Norwegian Kroner I think. Kanuck is my version of Cannuck... Canadians. I know some of them are not altogether happy with that term... but I use it in a loving and fun-having way.
