Thanks Malules. I love abstracts, but feel that I can't do them well enough myself (maybe because lack of any proper training in any form of art) but always appreciate very much when my simple efforts are liked.

cheers !!

Another big YES to the very very important question!! Which confirms how scientifically we proceed onto examining this question - the results are always reproducible! They are "YES"!!;-)

Yes, it is quite different to have something that is abstract by itself, and to make an abstraction of something real existing.

The process of abstraction is a very interesting as it reduces the amount of *available* information of something down to the amount of the needed information that suffices in order to reconstruct that something - especially the parts of that something that are of interest at the moment.

So for example, when a physicist makes the abstraction in order to describe, say, the free fall, he reduces the amount of information down to the absolutely needed level. In this case only the mass of the falling object is needed - but not its shape, color, or what it is made of. Then this property, the mass, plays a role in re-constructing the free fall, finding the velocity that the object has at a given time, etc. All other things are kept out of this process.

In the photographic sense it is pretty much similar. Find out what are the few things needed in order for the image to convey exactly what it should convey. Perhaps it is the lines, or the colors, or some special object, or similar.

The abstract image, as opposed to the abstraction, may also contain much more information, be of a way more composite nature than the rather simple and clear abstraction.

Errrm, Saturday thoughts, I guess! ;-)

Cheers,

Nick

I like what you said here.. 'abstraction' .. yes, indeed !!.. These shots are not typically abstracts, but an abstraction of a reality image !!

Cheers !

Strongest color and quite absolute color, Avi! Under that angle of view you flattened reality - you just compressed that to the thickness of the color layer of an image, that still contains hints about the orientation to the depth, as the skew lines of contours get denser to the depth, and the different optical size of the two windows tell us.

The image goes abstract but not as something that doesn't exist anywhere else than in the own mind. It is rather the abstraction, the projection of the world on an image - and the process of photographic abstraction in that sense is really hard! But you master it very well, as I can see!

Now, add that strong light without overexposure, and soon you have a small masterpiece in simplicity.

Hi Avi1 these shot's are typical award winners, but honestly in my oppinion this particular taste of fire red plus the verticals are pure visual distraction, but if you like it... then it's a different story!
