lol...I'm so sorry Mary. I didn't stop to think this may sound be a bit overwhelming and I wouldn't want to do that to you or anyone else. I couldn't even spell lighting at one time, myself! Get your new flash and play with it a bit. Let me know what model you got and the camera you use it with. Off camera flash is great and I've now fallen in love with the light from the ones I use. Visit the website I told you about and take it in a little at a time with a good cup of coffee. It will all makes sense in no time at all, I promise. Take care my friend! Dwight

Okay, you are way over my head with the lighting information. I am at the very beginning of that learning curve, so am not really sure what your method involves, yet. The web site you mentioned looks like it has good information and I have it bookmarked for future reference to read through when time permits. I will start after Christmas experimenting with my new flash. It is nothing fancy, but I will be able to try out some bounces and a few other things. MAry

Mary, Thank you very much for the comment! I now shoot with up to three Nikon SB800's and one SB80DX flashes and using the Nikon D200 it works as a commander for ttl flash work with the SB800's or I can shoot in manual flash mode and use all four flashes (the pre-flashes for ttl cause the SB80DX to fire on the first pre-flash, which then causes it not to contribute to the lighting. I hope Santa brings you everything you desire and I know at least with me lighting is always at the top of my list. Visit www.strobist.com for some really great lighting tips, which can be done on a budget with great effects. I totally missed the bright spot above my head and you are absolutely right about it. It was from light spill coming in from the sides of the blinds and is off the wall, now that I look at it I should of noticed it. I cherish your input to my images and if you see anything that doesn't look right or even if you think "Well this is terrible" please let me know. I know that every image I put up is just not perfect and that is what I'm here for, to find out how to improve or what other people see that I may miss. Thank you again! Warm Regards, Dwight

Hi there. It's nice to put a face with your name. I really like the lighting you used as it produces such a natural, unstaged look. The inclusion of your hand on your knee adds to the casual feeling, but in no way interferes with the classiness of your portrait. Your 'looking right at me' eyes are very engaging. Great shot. Lighting is something I don't know much about. Sometimes, when taking a picture of someone, I move around to catch the light and shadows from different angles. So luck is involved, but the more I do it, the luckier I seem to get. (Not very technical, but I'm learning bits at a time.) Santa is bringing me a flash this year, so I will be 'playing' with it. If you don't mind, I would offer one suggestion. The brightish white leaf right on top of your head draws my eye to it when nothing should distract me from your handsome face. I do hope you don't mind my pointing that out. MAry
