i have a decision to have a tripe to south africa and need a hot tele lens like 800mm!
but its talking about a lots of money! 5000$ for lens and 2000& or more for tripe!

As other have said this lens is big and heavy. It REQUIRES a tripod and gimbal head (I use the Bogen/Manfrotto 3421 as well - a great value for a solid, well balanced, fluid motion camera platform.
That`s some serious outlay my friend,I know you will enjoy shooting Birds.If you need help just ask Yamil or Marcus, they are pretty cool about sharing their knowledge time permitting,needless to say I would be happy to pass on what I know if you need any help.
I shoot my 300/4 & 1.4 tc off a Sidekick[generic of course]it works great.

wow good capture dear robert...sounds like u have fun with 400mm! i am thinking to buy a 300-800sigma... about bird photography there is a member in usefilm and he is a perfessional and i think his name was markus armani

woooooooow, Robbie...!!!!!! I am stunned by this picture.. This is eerily different, great feel to it, and so artistic. I like the movement of the bird,very dynamic and emotional..also beautiful tones, contrast, and brown color against the blue sky ..
The title grips me in the heart right now dear Robbie, very appropriate. Simply unbelievable.

Hi Robbie.
Very nice bif shot, with very good feather and eye detail. The colour cast by the late day light is nice. I'm not sure what this is, is it a GBH? Good to see some of your birds.
