About The scene had something very nice in all its quite unspectacular lookings. A father supports his children to discover the world, but not standing himself in the spotlight. It is much more a presence in the background as he holds the curious small human being in order to prevent a free fall into the cold water. ;-) But he knows to also allow enough space for the young one to mature on the own ways. The contemplation of the kid might also convey both: Observation of the "outer world" and also of the own self mirrored on the water. Since the scene was rather subtle to me, I decided to try some shots in some way that doesn't scream a lot "look at me" - the latter being perhaps a bit too much of an invasion of the privacy of those people. This one turned to be the best of those shots and I'd be very glad for any comments about it.

I can completely understand what you describe, Paul! I can only be glad if this image somehow reminded you of that milestone.

Hi Visar and many thanks for the nice and detailed comment. The pale tones are definitely due to the light of winter on that day - and I like such scenes colored this way very much too.

Cheers,

Nick

It reminds me of when we were crossing the street, and I told my son to 'give me your hand'. Well, he defiantly informed me, "I can hold my OWN hand." :)

It was a milestone moment for sure.

well Nick, of this composition i think it cannot be better set from where you took this shot. tones are also nice, somewhat pale they seem to me, but i think that's canon.
the decisive moment is really nicely captured.

regards,
v.

WOW! This is a beautiful photograph. I am amazed at the details that are revealed the longer you look at it.
