About This lifeguard tower reminded me of the old NASA photos of the lunar lander on the moon. The exposure was bracketed. The only light is coming from two street lights. Taken in Oceanside California.

This is a familiar site, but with the inventive title, I am pleased to see it in a different way. It's the way children tend to see the world, not so static and jaded. I like it and the title.

There is no rating, so i can't give you the highest number but i can tell you that this is one great and amazingly composed photo with great contrast. The only thing missing is a black Pamela Anderson, running to save someones life.

After browsing around the site I always find my way back to this photograph. I love it, definitely one of the coolest pictures of the lifeguard towers that I've seen. Just out of curiosity was it the tower in Coronado?

Unique photo, the "hard" Agfa APX adds the mood of the image. Unbelieve, I thought this is PS work... Thank you, you made my day... I love B&W, but never tried the long exposure. One more reason now.

Shengnan Huang   {K:125} 9/2/2003
I think this is a great long exposure photograph. The crispness of the lander is quite remarkable considering the available lighting and the long shutter speed.

The dark, expansive sky works really well to make the subject leap off in front of you and i think it is extremely expressive but subtle.

Steve,
I return to look at this image regularly - it is one of the images I use as a benchmark for what I'd like to achieve with one of my weakest photographic areas - truly understanding black + white.
Your comments and forum posts are valuable, if you move on as your forum post suggested, you will be sorely missed.
Chris
PS Is there any way I can get a print of this image in the UK? chris.moore@panasonicmobile.co.uk

K. Lazlo Hud...

When this image was uploaded, Usefilm had an image limit of 450 pixels and 100k file size. Yes, I wish it was uploaded now with the currently allowed image quality.

This picture is hanging on my wall at 12" x 12" and it's razor sharp, edge to edge.

Ameet Mallapur   {K:1575} 4/11/2003

K. Lazlow Hud - It's your monitor.

  0

K. Lazlow Hud   {K:342} 3/24/2003
It's very good but I wonder if the novelty factor is pushing the rating up, rather than the actual quality, other than the mood and lighting, of the photograph. Sharper would be more dramatic - unless my monitor is taking detail away. Good job.

This is just wonderful! I honestly did think it was a lunar lander when I first glanced at the thumbnail on the main page. You have a great eye to spot this and see the possibilities and make such a terrific image. I would indeed like to see a larger version. Congrats!

Congrats on the EC Steve.

I keep coming back to look at this photo (it's been in my favorites since the day I wrote the favorites feature for Usefilm) ... I was looking at it in the slideshow mode, and I just love it.

It COULD be a lunar lander, but it really is just a beach lifeguard station... Love the black sky, the luminescent waters.. Perfect exposure.

  0

Debbie Groff   {K:9569} 4/11/2002
Yes I agree about the NASA lunar landing. I was thinking this was a PS job of sort because it does look like it's from "another world". Love it!

steve, you are perfecting the art of night photography :-)

  0

Joe McCary   {K:3235} 4/7/2002
I love the title. It izs the lander and the beach is the moon. Maybe NASA didn't really go... You could add the moon walkwers witrh a touch of PS. It is too sharp to be the Apollo images, oh well, such is modern optics. I will never again look at a lifeguard stand the same again. :)

Chris Whaley   {K:3847} 4/7/2002
Very surreal Steve....sharp, great contrast, imaginative. Good work.
