Here is a shot exposed for the flora referred to previously. I'll be tryig these types of shots with polarising filters when I have time to get to a store to buy some as I've heard they can be useful for rainforest images.

A different exposure

Charles Senescall   {K:1389} 2/16/2008
Thanks Daniel! I created this picture from 5 images selected from a series of 36 shots to get both light and detail in the final image by layering in PS and using software for light enahancement of all light behind the trees with emphasis of course on the left. I then ran a gentle gradient over the whole picture. Attached is a one of the shots with blown highlights used as the base for the light in the picture. I'll attach another image in the next post showing exposure used for the forest flora. All had to be carefully aligned as no tripod was available or used - can rarely bother carrying it!

Thanks and regards,

Charles

Hi Nin,

Yes, Birds Nest Ferns is the common name used to refer to these epiphytic ferns. There's about 26 species of these in Australia. They grow fairly high up in the canopy where they can get light although they sometimes can be found on cliff faces or rock crevices at gorund level where there is a bit of a clearing inthe forest allowing some light to reach the ground. The leaves form a dramatic rosette shape that catches rain and falling debri thus channelling liquid and nutrients to the fern. They are easily grown in pots at home in partial shade situations.

Regards

Charles
