It is only the opinion of the amateur, Gustavo, that states that the universe is a "dream". The fact that science cannot exactly describe it doesn't mean any dream at all. It means that *perception* is limited. It means that our perception and cognition mechanisms "see" something that is not exactly the universe, but not that the universe is a dream. There is a lot of confusion about that from all the wannabe philosophers that never cared to make an experiment and draw the consequences - that would be not romantic thoughts but real hard work, you know ;-)
Aesthetics is such a diffuse realm - is Einstein's formula more aesthetical on the image? And if this is the case, then why? Perhaps because it is widely known? And here we see this: Aesthetics *will* follow main streams. It doesn't exist for itself but it is rather *generated* by mind - a mind that *has* already experienced a long time of perception of something. We get used to aesthetics but this doesn't mean much. Under any other influence we would invent some other aesthetical rules, I guess. Much like the first white people that saw Indians and considered them "ugly". And now, after some centuries we find them beautiful too. ;-)
So, it's more a matter of consistency, here. The relation E=m*c^2 does have to do with red shift, but not as directly as Hubble's law does. The theme of the image would be consistently represented be Hubble - or if you like by any other relativistic formula relating time and space. On the other hand, the relation of mass and energy can be also thought of as a translation of the relation of time and space too. So it does fit but only in an indirect way.

Ja...ja...vos, como Nick, no podes negar tampoco tu formación académica y científica. Cómo no sorprendernos por la expansión del universo los que alguna vez miramos al cielo tratando de entender a las estrellas?...;-)..., te digo algo...no sé si lo sabías, o por ahí es un hecho tan trivial que lo pasamos por alto: cuando miramos a la distancia, a las distancias del universo, no miramos solo a la distancia, miramos en el tiempo, cuanto más lejos mas al pasado. El sol a unos spinetianos 18 minutos luz (que no son 18) está razonablemente en nuestro presente, pero Andrómeda a 3000 millones de años luz, no... Esto es es, vemos el univeros que fue, no el que es y sobre el que poco o nada sabemos... Y por ahí Peter Hammill tenga razón que el universo sea un sueño, aunque Nick, no esté de acuerdo...ja...ja...

Gracias querido amigo!, por el lado de la ecuación de Einstein, la elegí antes que la ley de Hubble por ser un ícono sobre el espacio y el tiempo conocido por todo mundo, y no te olvides que al no perseguir, con esta foto, un fin científico exacto, sino estético, me puedo tomar algunas licencias al respecto. De todas formas el toque científico del tema me alentó a dedicártelo, porque vos sos un científico...;-)

Thanks a big lot for the dedication, Gustavo! You made my day! And what is the distance at which the expansion rate of the universe makes the redshift so big that no light from there can be detected at all? ;-)
I find the image very well done, and that not only because it has a very good contrast and a great set of colors. It is much more because here, as in many of your images, thoughts are induced! This is no fruitless "artistic work" that doesn't say anything. And thus it is strong! I hope that many will get the same impression that I have: The time itself starts at the very moment of the Big Bang! There is no content in the question "what was before?" since the word "before" already assumes time, which didn't exist before. And all this I see on this crispy image!
Now, there is also a small mistake here. E=m*c^2 is OK but I guess that Hubble's law matches the title much better. ;-)
BTW, the universe is not a dream quite contrary to what Peter Hamill said. He accepted the money for the records instead of rejecting it as a "dream", didn't he? ;-)

Pensé en el Big Bang, pero como además de fanático de la SiFi y la literatura fantástica, también lo soy de cierta música y no me pude resistir a la canción del genial Peter Hammill.
Por otra parte mientras el Big Bang te lleva al glorioso principio del universo, la expansión te lleva al lado opuesto, a su incierto final con la entropía tendiendo a cero y un universo helado, negro, sin luz, ni energía ni actividad alguna...tal vez...:-) ese final probable a mí me parece mucho mas fascinante que el origen... Aunque tal vez y en cual círculo que se cierra a si mismo, principio y final sean una misma cosa...
Leiste "La última pregunta" de Isaac Asimov?, si no la leiste te lo mando, es cortito pero muy bueno.

En 1929, el astrónomo E. Hubble postuló que el universo se expandía de modo tal que cada galaxia se aleja de nosotros a una velocidad proporcional a su distancia; cuanto más débil es el brillo de la galaxia, mayor es su velocidad de alejamiento. Este fenómeno se comprobó en todas las direcciones, sin que pueda saberse dónde estaría ubicado el centro (y/o los bordes) de ese gigantesco sistema de galaxias.
Usando ese descubrimiento como herramienta de cálculo, si se consigue medir la velocidad de una galaxia alejándose, se puede deducir su distancia.
Este fenómeno puede compararse en primera aproximación a un globo que está inflándose, dentro del cual hay partículas de polvo. A medida que aumenta de tamaño, es decir, las paredes del globo se extienden, las partículas de polvo de su interior se alejan unas de las otras. Algo similar sucedería en el espacio: cada partícula de polvo en el globo equivale a una galaxia del universo. Destaquemos la dificultad que surge entonces para señalar el centro del sistema estando ubicados nosotros en una de esas partículas.
La velocidad de una galaxia se obtiene a través de su espectro; como ya hemos mencionado, en los espectros de los astros aparecen líneas relacionadas con los elementos químicos presentes. Si el astro se mueve, las líneas de sus espectros se mueven de su posición natural.
Si el astro se aleja, las líneas se desplazan hacia la zona de las longitudes de onda largas, identificadas con el color rojo; por esa razón, cuando se habla del corrimiento al rojo de las galaxias, se está indicando el alejamiento de las mismas.
Pero de forma equivalente, si el astro se acerca, las líneas se corren hacia la zona de longitudes de onda corta, es decir, hacia el azul.
Puede decirse entonces que la distancia a cada galaxia es proporcional a su corrimiento al rojo y, por lo tanto, es equivalente a su velocidad de alejamiento.
Finalmente, mencionemos que se ha determinado un incremento de la velocidad de unos 80.000 km/hora cada millón de AL de distancia, valor denominado constante de Hubble.
