The long shadows and that softer colors are indeed so special on these times of the day, Andre. I think that the direction from which the light falls on the objects on these times of the day also enhances the plasticity of the objects in a strong but also subtle way.
And that's all a big problem for me, regarding early morning hours. I need about ten clocks and a canon to wake up! But sometimes I manage that too, and then of course waking up early more than pays back.

I think you are right about the light at that time of day Nick. Early morning and late afternoon are my favourite times to shoot. I like the long shadow and soft colours that come with the low sun. Andre

And hopefully something of the beauty has been also captured adequately on the *image*, Peter.
About beauty, well, let's say there are many nice places for vacations. But there is definitely not only beauty everywhere even if the swiss take this patriotically in their typical exaggerated nationalistic attitudes.
But hey, when you come around here just drop me a line. You are always welcome for a stay.
Cheers!

Hi Andre and thanks a lot for the encouraging comment! I try to get a recognizable signature, really, but my family name.... ;-)
I am glad that you referred to that color transition of the sky. I have the impression that it supports very well the "alpine look". A long time I as trying to get that right without polarizers and gradation filters and I almost gave up, but these images show that it is actually possible. I think that the time of the day plays a big role for getting that color transition right. At least whenener I try that between 8:00 and 10:00 it really works well.
Cheers!

Thanks a lot for the nice detaield comment, Visar!
I am glad that you posed this question about the reasons. Well, it was November 2006 and the winter air has most of the time a much much higher clarity around here. This allows to try shots with good details evene at the very far range. But this was the more "technical" reason.
The other reason was that all these places should actually be completely white at this time of the year. But as you can see there is only some little snow on the peaks and that's all. This is an absurd looking situation, since trees without leaves automatically mean snow here. Or better say this *meant* snow. But as you can see no more. The absurdity of the scene has its own charms. A landscape that looks like summer in some sense and like winter in some other sense. There is grass but it is not really green, there is snow but then again not really.. everything is just "inbetween". This kind of look was very impressive to me and so I tried my best.
It's also a bit of the end of what we were used to. Or to put it a bit more ironically: Oh nooo, there is no global warming, so let's waste some more barrels of oil! ;-)
Cheers!

Thanks a lot for the nice comment, Vandi!
I think that the next one shows that texture of the bank a bit better. Actually the lake covers that bank completely in summer. In winter the water is allowed to flow to lower places through pipes for electricity generation, and in summer when less electricity is needed they just close the pipes and the lake fills up again.
Cheers!

Hi Nick, A lovely landscape in your signature style with everything in the image sharply focused. I think this is the strongest in the series so far because of the position of the reflection of the mountains. I also like the way the sky transitions from light blue to darker blue at the top. Andre

it is beautiful Nick- I'm impressed with the details and the tones. With this composition, and beautifully curved edges of the shapes from where, on the right bottom, starting with the house (a great element for balance) and the road in front of it- hiding behind the hill in foreground, continuing with the bank on the left and the right- and the lovely reflection on the water- this image reaches the peak with the peak in the background!
what was the season you shot it Nick?! (you have glorified this season)
cheers, v.
