About
As we were approaching one of many canals in Key Colony we stumbled on a family of iguanas enjoying the midday sun – 3 emerald green baby iguanas and the two watchful parents. Whilst mum and the babies headed for the safety of nearby mangroves as soon as they spotted us, the head of the household covered their retreat and was the last to leave the scene. I was probably about 22-24 feet away from him when I took this picture. However he was not prepared to let us get much closer and launched himself into the water. I never realised that iguanas can swim. This one certainly put on Olympic performance. I suppose the thought going through his reptilian mind at the time was “better safe than sorry”.
