About Howard Hughes's famous HK-1 Hercules is a cargo-type flying boat designed to transport men and materials over long distances. Originally conceived by Henry J. Kaiser, a steelmaker and builder of Liberty ships, the aircraft was designed and constructed by Hughes and his staff. The original proposal for the enormous, 400,000-pound wooden flying boat, with its spectacular 320-foot wingspan, came from the U.S. government in 1942. The goal was to build a cargo and troop carrier that did not require critical wartime materials; in other words, that substituted wood for metal.

This plane is absolutely too big to get it all in one image - the building was built around it -----

Was this the monster that starred in the movie with Leonardo DeCaprio ? I thought you might have 'stitched it together for me ! The photos, not the plane...

Nice shot, interesting because of the richness here... there are lot of subjects in a main subject... about an airplane exhibition, however that is also a ...sad subject for me lol... planes are like birds, no way to be in a cage hahaha.... kidding, I know these airplanes, the Greek air force have a lot but never had shot them...

Ok dear Michele, this would perfect for our weekend trip. You have your license now I hope. The smaller planes on the foreground are also OK but I advice you not to take all your pairs of shoes with you this time, just your camera that's all.
hugs and kisses,

Hi Julie - No kidding is this a humungous plane - I have never seen anything like it before - There were BIG planes underneathe it, helicopters, it was surrounded by aviation history - very intersting - poor plane only got to fly once 33 miles and that was that - into the museum -

Big kiss and hug to you my dear ...I wish You a wonderful week-end as well - and anxious to view your Sunday shoot :))

I am sure You have looked it up on the internet - there is a tone of information there - It's sooooo interesting huh ? Bummer it's so far away from you altho YOU are quite the 'traveler ' & on the web it says the museum is in Portland but it is about one hr. drive from there in a small town - Mcminville as I stated - come see it !!!!

Hello my dear sweet Srna !!!

Thank You for your supportive and understanding comment - I honestly don't know how I would 'ever' get an image of the entire air craft- even 'stitching'---- all of the other planes would cover it :(( But it is a good idea :))
I appreciate to know what You do like about it - You would love to view this - I've never seen anything like it - size -wise - a great museum to view !!!!!!

I wish you all the best my dear - and hope also that YOU are alright - I really love your work especially your last image :))

Hi Bill - I kind of thought YOU might like this plane :))
I do wish I could've got a shot of the entire air craft but I could not even find a post card of it - It's a monster - you would also like all of the old planes surrounding it I am sure :))
Thank You for your comment -

Thank You so much dear Tommaso for your supportive comment and 'good idea' maybe a wide angle :))

This plane is one of the largest in the world and VERY hard to get the shot as I have said in the 'about' - It only flew one time - then Hughes put it to rest ---
It's a great museum :))
Hugs,
Michele~

Very intersting about and
nice pov of hangar dear Michele.

Sure in these cases there are some problems
also with wide angle,
perhaps it need an ultra wide angle. ;-)

Thank You for your comment Mark - Yes you are right except for the part about alllllllll the other old helicopters and planes surrounding it - I mean I surely could get a better shot than this - I thought about stitching but haven't mastered that technique yet - I didn't take the entire tour inside but plan to return and maybe witha simple point and shoot I could at least get the entire plane even with all the surrounding history of aviation - I am adding another POV in-case you might be interested - and Thank You again for your time to view and comment .

Regards,
Michele~

George Marks   {K:15437} 9/19/2008
I have often wondered what happened to this masterpiece of engineering. With a shorter focal length lens you could get the entire aircraft in one shot. Stitching would work too.
