About Prickly pear cacti typically grow with flat, rounded platyclades that are armed with two kinds of spines; large, smooth, fixed spines and small, hairlike spines called glochids that easily penetrate skin and detach from the plant. Many types of prickly pears grow into dense, tangled structures.

Prickly pear species are found in abundance in the West and Southwest of the United States and throughout much of Mexico. Prickly pears are also the only types of cactus natively found to grow in the eastern United States. They are also found in the Mediterranean region of southern Europe.

The fruit of prickly pears, commonly called cactus figs, Indian fig or tuna, is edible, although it has to be peeled carefully to remove the small spines on the outer skin before consumption. If the outer layer is not properly removed, glochids can be ingested causing discomfort of the throat, lips, and tongue as the small spines are easily lodged in the skin.

Nice colors... and if...IF you are enough brave to cut these and clean them from the needles and the out parts you'll see how sweet fruits they are... unfortunately it's really difficult to get these hahaha....ok, even the shot is enough here.

Hallo Paul, good to see you again, yes I did some harvesting on Crete for sure, lots of blooming and strange flowers there now, was really surprised!
Thank you for liking my sticky p*ickles, they were yet not edible, but looked so delicious in colour, I think even more then the dark red when ready! Hoping you are well and happy, I had a nice time, weather was fine and seen lots of history, wishing you a wonderful weekend,
Kiss and hugs Jenxx

Hi Jen,
good to see you back with your latest picture harvest from Greece. I hope you have had a nice time.
Stick flowers are somewhere a contradiction to me and I think you succeeded here very well in showing this contrast in beautiful yellow-green back light.
hugs and kisses,
Paul
