I think that the yellow leaved tree had to be on the image as a whole, Dave! Nice coloring of rich tones, and nice perspective, but the composition needed a wider angle. This way ot looks both too "partial" and also "unfinished".
The distance and depth did work quite well, as they do convey that certain kind of endlessness around. The lighting is also well balanced. I would only wish some little more detail on the dark forests over there, but then again this darker look makes them also agrre with the general "far away" atmosphere.
