About
A green spot in the middle of the desert. Murray Springs Clovis Site is an archaeological site named for the nearest natural feature, Murray Springs, which is actually located ½ mile east. It is a desert spring marked by a stand of cottonwood trees; a wonderful place to see birds, but not enough water for swimming. Thirteen thousand years ago the climate of southern Arizona was quite different. It was cooler and wetter, and not a desert at all. Very large animals, or mega-fauna, like mammoths, mastodons, giant ground sloth and saber-toothed cats were living then.
