Yamil, thanks for providing all the helpful details and taking the time to respond. I will take these tips into the field with me next time. I am certain however, that this is a skill that is aquired with many hours of experience as it is rare to see a shot of this type as beautiful and perfect as you've done here. Have a great day! :)

Thanks Brigitte,
I always appreciate your comments.
For birds in flight I use AV, F stop between 5 and 7.1, central focusing point, al servo mode, ISO between 250 and 400 and auto focus.
While tracking your subject (on a clean background)if your sensor loses "the target" and begins to search by it self, release the shutter buttom and depress it again to re-acquire focus.
Good luck my friend.

Yamil

Wow, incredibly beautiful wildlife shot here, Yamil. Such a sharp image and the shutter speed is just perfect! I tried shooting a flying seagull and a snowy egret with my new telephoto lens but couldn't get it to focus in properly. Is there a trick to it? I used auto focus... should I have used manual and set to near infinity? 7/7

Thanks Yamil. Thanks for the link about this lens. Guess at that price I will be doomed to lens envy for a while!! Looks like a wonderful piece of glass. Great review.
Be well, Stan

Thank you Stan, I always appreciate your comments.
For all my pics I use the EF 400mm f/4 DO IS USM is 26% shorter and 36% lighter than a conventional lens with the same focal length and aperture specifications.

I like the water drops still on his breast. Almost looks like a painting with the DOF and bokeh of your lens. Is this an L lens? You have such fine detail on so many of your shots. Great capture!!
Be well, Stan
