The 16 bit files have more color info, you pull out much more. Not too sure of the technical aspect. Get 500gb external that`s usb powered and save to both computer & external hard drive your finished images in a similar named folder. Check this out for back up. http://search.live.com/results.aspx? q=sync+toy&FORM=SOLTDF re missing ISO,sorry I have no idea. Robbie

Oh yeah and is there any good reason to save the higher bit files opposed to just the 8 bit image files??? Much bigger files plus not all programs support all edditing options.....Just wondering if its worth the space and headach??

yeah that is what I was doing with my canon raw files but saving them to a dvd. I just have to figure out with program Im going to use to view them on....I like the capture NX but its a bit harder to work with. I guess I have 6 months to figure it out for sure. Oh and is there any reason that my ISO settings are not saving along with the rest of the into .....Everything but that is listed! Good peices of info too! lol

Paul what I do is to save my NEF files on an external hard drive and open them in the raw converter thus perserving the originals.I normally delete those I don`t want to keep. Robbie If you need more explanation email me.

Not sure if there was any left on it or not. I think it end after a year. And the camera is just over a year old. I have to call the guy this weekend when he gets back as he went out of the country on winter break vacation. Maybe he can tell me alittle more about what I might be doing wrong if anything. The camera was in ment cond. With no more than 2000 shutter releases and came with...
Nikkor AF-S DX 12-24/ 4G IF (Purchased 1/19/08) Nikon 16-85 AF-S f/3/5-5.6G ED VR (I just bought this lens on10/20/08) Nikon 55-200mm VR AF-S DX f/4-5.6 G IF-ED
The 16-85mm ED VR was less than three months old and he paid 900 for it alone. Only was on the camera once!
With that and the fact that it looked like it had not been used and in store cond. I coulden't pass it up!
Thanks again my friend. Ill get over to see you lasted post!
Paul
Happy shooting and hope you get your upgrade soon!

Did you have any warranty left on the D300? Did you buy from a friend? Sounds like a great deal. I would like to get a 12.8mp 5D Canon now that I have some good glass. Body only on Ebay still goes for over $1200. Hard to trust Ebay on that big of an investment. I will save some $ and keep watching now that the 5DII came out. I think new I can find a deal later this year. Good luck, hope it is an easy fix. Be well. Stan

Yeah I was using the 8mp Canon eos350D XT I bought the d300 used in ment condistion and it came with three lens. Pretty good qaulity les's as well so I know that is not the problem with the noise. Plus I bought a sigma 24-70 DG marco 2.8 and a lensbaby for it along with the SB 900 flash system. Stan the neat image is free and pay of course! lol Aint they all..... But the mostly the only difference is just that you can only save in jpg format. I do that and then convert back to tiff. Works fine like that.....You should give it a try. Cant do much better for a freebie and its pretty good just using it in auto but you can also easliy fine tune it as well...... Let me know if you try it....I may have my D300 check out if I can live without it for awhile which I prob. won't be able to do....lol

Paul, congrats on the D300. Did you have some Nikon lenses already? Was your Canon the 6mp Rebel? Quite a step up. Good luck in your quest for excellence. How's the dark room coming? I think low light is tough on digital no matter what.. I do not seem to have as bad of noise with my better lenses. I have the 8mp Rebel. Is Neat Image a free program or is it a capitalist venture? I had a friend that said she uses it also. Love those Woodpeckers!! They are seasonal here in Montana. The Red Shafted Flickers stay all year. They are really tough on my trees!! Good luck and be well, Stan

Yes Stan very low light and overcast with rain on and off....I was hoping with brighter condistions that the quality would improve. These are set between 100 and 200 ISO so I shouldent be having this much noise with this Nikon. Yes its my new one. The D300 which is suppose to be one of the better high ISO cameras. I must not be doing something right. levels at 200 on this is as bad if not worse than my canon d300! I even have the in camera noise reduction on! I just shots some others with it off to see what it will do. But at that low of setting I should even have to be using a noise program I wouldent think...... Test test test. Hopefully Ill get it! Thanks for the kind words and review my friend!
Be well

I like this shot with the ornamental bracket and the angle of the shot. Was this in low light, I have my noise problems on the heavy overcast, late or early in the day with my Canon Rebel. I do not usually have noise at that low of an ISO though. My noise start at 400 and up. In bright sun no problem. I think the colors and the bokeh of the lens are really nice on this. The neat image program seem to do a descent job. Is this a new Nikon? Be well, Stan
