Thanks a lot for the info AJ. Well, normally downscaling and then saving at some good to very good quality JPEG is enought for avoiding such problems but actions are of course a different story.
The fisheye could really make even more of that. Or perhaps some couple of exposures and then stiching them together, but this would of course mean a small photographical marathon.
Cheers!
Nick

Yes, a fisheye would be a good choice, Taras. Thanks for your comment.

Very nice idea. I would like to try a similar shot, but with a fisheye lens one of these days.

Thanks for your in-depth and considered comment, Nick. Re the pixelation: I've checked the original and it seems that the compression for UF has struggled to maintain the vast detail in the bricks of the original. This is one of the first images on which I used a PS action I set up to resize and frame specifically for UF - I'll review it to make sure everything is set up correctly.
This angle was the best I could get with the lenses I had with me. I tried various locations but was unable to include the lower parts of the buildings. I can see that if I were to spend more time here, a fisheye could be very tempting...

There is something wrong with the upload of this pic. I see the thumbnail but the full size does not come on the secreen. Can you check it? As judging from the thumbnail, I would agree with those who miss the colors from it (not that I don't like BWs). I like to title, a fine allusion to the Four Corners of the Southwest states.

I find it very good for its details and tonal range, AJ. The associated exposure balance was pretty near to perfect for getting that matt grey of concrete but also the strong reflections of light, especially on the right half. So there is a misture of "dusty rusty" old city and of "metal and glass" metropolis here.
The great DoF surely worked well for giving us a good impression of the distance into the height and revealing many of the details of window patterns on the facades. I only see some pixelation (zig-zag contours) on the bottom right.
Perhaps also some more of the lower parts of the buildings could enhance it further by letting them look even higher.
Good work and all the best for you new website and your next steps in photography.
Cheers!
Nick

Thanks Gary. I thought this was going to be a simple shot. I'd had it in mind a long time in advance. But when I came to shoot it I found all sorts of problems, including of course the contrast of the sky and the buildings. I took many of these over several days and eventually got one or two I was happy with.
Here I was standing on a pedestrian island in the middle of the road, so relatively safe... The only run-in I had with security was at the Empire State Building, where my tripod was confiscated.

Thanks Ray. I think the idea originally came from an image I saw a long time ago here on UF, and I had this one in mind even before stepping onto the plane...

Stunning, you've held the sky back very well and mono was really the only choice IMO. I like the contrast between the strightness of the buildings and the crookedness of the cross they've produced. The last time I tried this in the States, a security guard pounced on me and told me photography wasn't allowed. You were probably more at risk of being hit by a big yellow taxi. Regards, Gary

WOW!! I thought it was a flag in the thumbnail, just for a second or two. What an awesome perspective AJ. Neck breaking to achieve unless you have an angle finder. I would certainly have had to use mine. I love the monochromatic tones and the detailed patterning in the four different styles of windows. A great photo opportunity captured with excellence my friend. My very best wishes to you as always.....Ray

Thanks Ivona. And yes, the original has colours, sunlight and blue sky. But I had a concept in mind of this big "+" or "X" in the sky, and for that it has to be B&W!
