It doesn't fit exactly but it is always about darkness and loss isn't it?

Under the railroad bridge, a girl sits on a boulder she stands and turns, listening to the river stumble over rocks.
Her limp hand holds a compass face down. She doesn?t want to know which way is up, which way is south.
A drake parachutes down, adjusts his wings, settles with a small splash in the calm pool above the rapids.
She remembers, how she was taught that flat objects skip across water. Her fist clenches and then opens wide with a flick of the wrist.
She watches twin circles spread, merge, then disappear into the whistling mallard flight.
