Hi Harry,
this I have seen before. True that in B&W something in the mood of the picture changes, but honestly the previous one in color had just more its own dynamic accent and showed some surprising light contrast.
In B&W the mood shifts from dynamic to "somber" If there would have been a large dynamic range in grey tones it could have been justified but that is not the case over here.
