When taking the photo I had not realized that it really is a map of Europe. My interest was focused on color, shape and texture.

This is the effect of continental drift and global warming on Europe. You will notice that the Straits of Gibraltar have widened substantially, while the UK has become totally submerged. France and Spain are pushed ever closer together, and while southern Italy is now under water, a new range of mountains has risen to the west - a new bridge will shortly be completed creating a direct link to southern Spain. Scandinavia appears relatively unchanged...
