Phillip, this shot was tricky! The room was small with a very high ceiling. One wall had a mural with vivid blues and reds. Another wall was white. There was a south facing window with mid-afternoon sunlight coming through.
I metered for ambient light with my Minolta Flash Meter IV, and set the Metz for 1 1/2 stops lower. I believe I was also using a LumiQuest soft box attached to the flash as well so there was some additional loss of light from the flash.
I wanted very minimal fill so that it didn't overpower the natural window light. The jpeg file doesn't do justice to the eyes. The original print has beautiful, small catchlites in the eyes.
Nice shot Arthur. I'm just now venturing out into the cold, cold world outside the studio ;)
Do you meter for ambient light, and if you do, do you set your flash for 1-stop higher, lower, or on the money? Just curious. I'm experimenting with my Metz 60ct-1 for outside fill, and was wondering.
