Just a strong pattern in a good perspective and here is sich a facinating one again! The strong contrasts of those steps lets them attract much attention as they are so perfectly captured on the image. Almost mesmerizing for the eyes of the spectator.
I am also amazed to see that your focus still caught also the textures of the wall behind the steps in the darker but very expressive greys.
The diagonal composition worked very well with this subject. It enhances the already mentioned magnetizing view.
