I'm glad I can inspire, Agustin. A LOT of talented photographers on Usefilm kept me hungry and pushing harder on my own work.

Here's the deal on this shot of Arielle - One strobe camera right with a 20-grid to keep the light on her and not light up the curtains behind her. There is also a 2nd spot behind her with a 10-grid to outline her (though I really wanted a stronger effect from that light).

In post, instead of just B&W conversion, I went into Photoshop's channels, and made a copy of the BLUE channel, which maximizes contrast with freckles.

Hope this helps,

Paul

Your work is just excelling beyond measure. I love this model and the work you've done. I gotta do something like this..like real bad.
This style of image is what inspired me to buy my first camera. Thankx for the renewed inspiration.

Yes, it's interesting that I shot ONLY B&W for very many years, and now so seldom do it. Textures like this just cry out for it, though.

Thanks, Srna.

Thanks Paul,
I guess I'm in one of those "pointing out the obvious" moods tonight. :)

She has a really interesting look Paul. As Rashed stated already, it's too bad you weren't able to get a bit more separation from the background at the top of her head. The difference between a good portrait and an excellent one.

There are never hard feelings over someone else's opinion, Rashed. I WOULD have elevated my back light but I was without my boom (had to pack light for airline travel).

By all means it is a superb portrait work, I would have let the back light exposing the more of the head to the top and isolated the head hair from the background, it would been sparkling portait.

Never the less I have enjoyed viewing this work and wishing you all of the best, I hope there is no hard feelings.

Thanks, Gary. I really should, but I think my brain is wired for color - especially flesh tones. ;)

I'll try to do more B&W work.

She really jumps out of that monitor. Really good work with the conversion, you should do more mono work, perhaps?

Nice girl. I like how You used the backlight to outline her hair and jaw bone. Very good portrait.
