About	this lone scholar in the courtyard reading Tibetan scriptures caught my eyes late one evening as I was wandering among the temples of Kathmandu (Nepal). A single oil lamp provided the light.

I have found a link to one of de La Tours paintings which has similar light. Please note that the image is very poor compared to the real thing ;)

Yes, the exposure was for 9 secs.

Cool ! Are you sure this was a 9 second exposure ? The subject still seems sharp to me. This picture reminds me of the painter Georges de La Tour, who lived in the 17th century. Frequently he depicted scenes illuminated by candles.
