It is very well done in its own attitude, Leo. The atmosphere is dense, and it really has that special look of "film noir". The timing was exactly right for that, but also the weak focus under the applied exposure balance! The strong highlights in contrast to the shadows are perhaps soft but very definite in perception, so the impression of the scene is anything else than "indefinite", while there is still that kind of "vagueness" that plays such a big role in such movies. Very very clever!
