The fog makes a moody atmosphere, as does the B&W version.
I assume that the title reflects the thoughts of the pedestrian emphasizing the moody load. As the composition also has 3 layers I wonder which layer reflects the past, which the present and which the future ? I can interpret it in several ways depending on the gradation from clear to fuzzy but in that order I have to accept the tree as "present". Derived from the walking order the man himself would be past, which I think he should be more a symbol of being present and not being the past. Maybe the title had been chosen for the triple similarity but for nothing than for creating the mood of the person and spectator. I do not get to the right assignment of each of the elements without further imagination or explanation.
