Hello Alessandro, Thank you for the comment and for the correction! You are absolutely right. When I did a little more careful research on this Swan, it is indeed a Trumpeter Swan, not a Tundra Swan. There is that distinct difference of the yellow mark just below the eye on the Tundra Swans. They are also much smaller and they don't have as distinct a Vee shape at the top of the beak. I will change the title to Trumpeter Swan.
ps The funny thing is, a couple of years ago, I put up an image here that turned out to be my most popular image. I called it Tundra Swan also. :) Now I will have to change that title too. Thanks again, Andre

Great close up of this swan. I am not expert in american birds, but are you sure this is a tundra swan and not a trumpeter swan? All the tundra swans I have seen in Europe have a little yellow on the bill. the picture is wonderful for colours and details well done alessandro

Thanks Kerry, I have another recent head shot of a Mute Swan that I think is a little more interesting. But I liked the detail in this shot too. Andre

Thanks Riny, Yes, I believe it. I saw a large male Swan chase a 14 year old boy down a dirt road one day. He must have taken a dislike to him for some reason. Andre

Thanks Erland, But, it isn't B&W. I can understand why you would think that. The colour of the river water this time of year is extremely silty and murky and appears grey. Also, I did desaturate the blues slightly. There is a little touch of red on his beak. :) Andre

Thanks Dave, I was trying to get some pictures of this guy with the water dripping from his mouth similar to the last Swan post I put up. Unfortunately the light was a little low and they didn't work out. He was perfectly still for this shot. Andre

Thanks Nanda, I'm sure most of us have some great images of Swans. My top image taken a few years ago, is of a Swan also.

They are very photogenic and seem to cooperate for us. They are great to practice on, unlike the smaller faster birds that require much more patience and skill. Thanks for viewing and commenting. Andre

I'm finding that the lens really shines with sports like Auto Racing or Tennis where the 300mm is adaquate without the teleconverter.
Using the lens with a teleconverter in situations where the light is not too bright really creates a lot of wasted images. But even if one out of 50 comes out like this one, so be it.
I'm finding wildlife images are such a compromise. You have to be ready for anything, making a tripod a hinderance at times. Then, hand holding at 420mm focal length takes a lot of practice. It's all good fun though. Andre

A beautiful closeup, Andre! I really like the way you've captured the water droplets and fine feather detail. Dave.

Even though that's a Great Lense it still needs a very descent Photographer to compose such a fantastic Wildlife Headshot!
