Taken while the young monks were praying their evening prayers at Mihintale such an enthralling, calm and peaceful atmospshere.
Mihintale is famous as the place where Buddhism was introduced to Sri Lanka in 3rd century BC.
The monks in the monestry including the above are mostly from the surrounding villages. The novice monks above are known as Samaneras.
Pilgrims from Sri Lanka visit Mihintale. On an average 1000 to 2000 pilgrims and a nuber of foreign tourists visit Mihintale.
The young monks above keep Mihintale site clean, practice and live very simple lives.
