About Western Red Shafted Flecker is our native woodpecker that does not migrate and spends all year long here. I have a mating pair outside my window and they like playing around. The shaft on their feathers is indeed red shafted. Suttle differences between the male and female the male has red on his under his chin giving him an appearance of a red moustache. This is a male.
