Bitterroot or Lewisia rediviva is a large flowering low growing plant in the dry areas. Lewis of Lewis and Clark named this plant too. When he got back from his expedition he checked his press plants and this one has some growth after being dried and pressed for a long time. He planted it and in no time it regrew. So he gave this plant is speces name rediviva which means restored to life. They did make tea out of the roots but Lewis and Clark still found it too bitter for them thus the name Bitterroot.
