About
The B-17 bomber was the long rang bombing work horse of WWII. Over 20,000 were made during the war years. It was replaced by the B-29 bomber at the end of WWII. The B-17 was a rugged plane that could take a real beating and still get the flight crew home. However, they weren't invincible and many flight crews lost their lives or were made POWs after their plane was brought down. Each plane had a combat crew of 10 men.
