This is unexpected... Despite the posting date, I shot this at 2am on a crisp, freezing night in winter to test the capabilities of a digital camera at a longer shutter speed, and because I couldn't sleep (that moon is a menace). The D1H manual stated there would be noise at exposures longer than one second, so I was curious. So true, I discovered, Daniel and Richard. Karen, the artificial light originates from a streetlight-type mercury-vapor lamp next to my garage. Fabio, I've always loved your laconic expressions... you play your hand close to your vest. Happy Halloween. Maybe Ents do exist beyond Middle Earth...

Great photograph andrew! First time I glanced at it, I thought they were roots photographed under water. :) I hope it's not too much to ask you, why did you decide to use an f22? Was it to get greater DOF? I'm a beginner that's why. I thought the smaller the aperture the less light would come in, and it's night time so wouldn't you use a wider aperture? Also, where is that light coming from on the front of the picture? (not the moon)

They are indeed ominous looking trees. Chroma noise is also a bit scary. :)

Very nice shot for Halloween. I'd sleep with one eye open if those trees were in my backyard ;-)

It does appear a little noisy. Have you considered retaking the shot at a slower ISO and/or using NeatImage? (Or is the noise a jpeg conversion artifact?)

No fish was harmed in the filming of the holga cannon shot (you were the first one to guess how it was done). This photo reminds me of the trees in the Wizard of Oz and I'm glad they are not in MY backyard. Cottonwood is one of the more demented breeds but watch out for the sycamores, they are really nasty.

I guess they were more scary if left in the dark.

Thank you Gregory McLemore AND gregory J. mclemore for your kind words. Isn't it a wonderful coincidence that two Usefilm users with exactly the same name give me critiques on the same day at the same time. Simply amazing! Do you guys work in tandem, or is there something rotten in Denmark?
