so sorry about that...thanks for notifying me...this is wonderful...I have over 100 in flight and many on twigs, but this is the shot that has eluded me...you are quite fortunate...and actually it is pretty good...everyone always wants to see the stop action, but I love the motion ones...the still body and the frantic wings make a heck of a composition...your exposure and your colors are excellent here...I can think of all kinds of things to do with this in post editing ;~)...love it...and thank you again!

As I am so new to photography it would be pretentious of me to use the "Rate this photo" feature above. For composition and lighting I just would not know. However, for originality and emotional appeal I would, if I could, give it the maximum marks because it is a beautiful shot that speaks to even this amateur eye. I look forward to being able, in time, to using the "Rate this photo" feature with a trained and honest eye. Well shot John, it is a gorgeous image!!

Wonderful surprise - the hummingbird isn't apparent in the thumbnail. Great timing, wonderful image. Regards.

Wow, John, how on earth did you manage to get this close to this fellow? I'm impressed, even if you did use a 12x zoom. Love the blur of his wings ...
P.S. Thanks for the comments on the lillies and bridges :)

Actually, Luca, it was a grey time. If you notice the aperture and shutter speed, i.e., f2.8 at 1/25, the little hummer was hovering in fairly low light; I felt lucky to be able to "freeze" his hovering there. I'll have to try again when the sun is shining on the flowers, though the hummers seem to be more active around dusk.

It looks maybe a little too saturated to me, but I like the contrast between the colorful flowers and the dull background. The hummingbird, however, gets lost in the grey. Bye,Luca
