I'll give that a go tk...

I like the light. It works well for this shot. His eye is in focus. Great catchlight. His look is contemplative. Makes me wonder what he is thinking about "up there." The crop works for me as well.

I think you may be right there phil, sometimes i miss this stuff in the clutch, triage portraiture can be hairy hehe. I have some other variations, maybe one of em overcomes that obstacle. Anyone have any thoughts on how effective this is as a portrait, the style, etc?

T.K., I like the tones, and mood. Bring his face back toward the camera 1", and you have it. I've never liked 1/2 an eye showing. Just me.
