I like it as is, but it would make an interesting experiment to use different light and treatements to bring out the character or this piece of wood.

Reminds me of the eye of some ancient creature frozen in time. The angle of light added to the high contrast really brings out the textures here.

Little hard green brains - I used to collect them when I was a child because they had to be good for something - they were so fascinating - never did figure out what they were good for!!
Yes - durable posts - but wonderfully gnarled and crooked too - makes for interesting fences...
