Joe, the dress was quite visible in the original but I've used a vignette to help it to fade into the background so that the viewers eye doesn't follow the lines right out of the compositon. The interest here is supposed to be the model and the fine details on the front of the dress and hat. The photo posted by me that follows this one is more about the overall dress and the background is more appropriate for that with straight columns contrasting with the more flowing curves of the costume. As for this photo, I can still see the lines of the dress but less than before. If your display is darker it might be more difficult to see the subtil details. Thank you for your comment.

Something bvthers me mhere... Either I would have chosen a lighter (not black) background OR I would have used some side/rear lights to highlight the back edge of the dress. The dress is dark and gets lost in the background.

Hi Bob, Love this one! I think I've seem similar portraits like this from you before. You have a real flaire for studio lighting. Her expression suits the era perfectly...dead pan and serious. Costume is incredible as well. Your images always have such great clarity and saturation.

Outstanding Robert, such great detail and excellent facial tones. You lighting is right on. Just enough backlighting to rim light the subject. Great work. Don.

This is technically very polished, with good lighting and excellent tones - a tribute to your eye as much as to that 6mp camera. The lady certainly stands out from the plain dark background. A good example of the genre - I bet the model was delighted with the results.

What a splendid dress!!!! And the picture is very good also, the background is flawless, the colours of the dress are excellent, and the blue of her eyes is just beautiful. Good work.
