About Shot handheld with polarizer and fill flash. It took nearly 20 frames to get one with blurred wings and a sharp head. EBX was definitely the wrong film to use in such harsh light. Contrast was reduced in PS. Location: Bonaventure Island, Quebec, Canada.

Man . Your photos are all top stuff! This one I really love. Did you have to pan with the bird to catch it? If you were following it how did you also ensure the horizon was perfectly horizontal? I think it would take me more than 20 shots to achieve this standard and I can't afford the slide film for this sort of action. With digital I can believe how you could keep on snapping away.... you must have been really be determined to get the right shot, and it friggin' worked. Good on you!

Great job. I have always wanted to do a shot like this but with crows.

I am not about the sea and mist in the bottom. But I have to say the composition is very very nice.

I have to disagree with Vincent--it's perfect as is! You need the other birds for context and interest, otherwise it's more ordinary.

I do like achieved effect of sharpness on the face, yet blurred wings, also the layout is good with the other birds filling the frame nicely. However, since these other birds are basically reduced to specks that are not too crisp, I think I would consider cropping them out altogether and making this more of a closeup on the main guy. Good to see you leave that tripod in the car!
