Awesome shot. Not only is it a great shot from a photography standpoint, but the emotion captured is amazing. I'm a huge animal lover, and you can almost feel the fear and loneliness in his/her eyes. I do hope this little guy made it outta the dumpster!

A good capture with perfect colour and focus. The look of fear in the Racoons eyes is very disturbing. A very emotive subject the destruction of wildlife habitats. We have the same problem with urban foxes and I regulary see one in my garden.

Very sad about the coons, but pray that they don't become extinct. In Calcutta (India),we've almost killed off the jackals. No not by hunting, just by encroaching. Regards.

Nice capture! Right place at the right time? One of your commentors mentioned seeing you crop more in the front less on top... I like just as it is. Reason? Beacuse it gives a good feeling of how "deep" this little guy is.
You've definitely captured the emotion of the moment. Great work!

P.S. If this dumpster is deep, he may have needed a branch or piece of rope to get out. But one way or the other, Im sure he did. Ive seen them form a chain. O.K. so you all know Im crazy now.

This is a very healthly looking rac. Im very fond of them, had several that were like part of the family, sat in my lap going through my pockets, kept the good stuff, threw the cigarettes away. They love anything shiny, and collect various shiny metal junk as treasures. They were never aggressive towards me, never entered their minds. Amazingly smart. I dont argue your point about being forced into the suburbs, but, where there is food, they will find it. So this dumpster, or the nearby chinese restraunt, or my house is just part of their everyday, or night stops, along with the streams, and woods. Thanks for posting this photo, the rabies epidemic killed most of them near me, and I still miss them.

You couldn't have done much better technically imo. Lighting, composition, etc.
Your comments are dead on. I see this alot where I live. Something very wrong to see a wild animal surrounded by steel instead of pine needles and brush. This also conjures up all the images I've seen of homeless people, the look in the eyes is almost the same.

The corner has symbolism, but it is also a very interesting background without detracting from the animal, plus there are the lines all pointing to the Racoon as Richard pointed out. I might have liked to see a little more space in front, and a little less on top.

The lines leading into the animal from different directions emphasise a feeling of being trapped. You have also caught the expression at just the right moment. Well done Kelly. This would make an excellent promotional shot for a wildlife protection agency. It has the right amount of sympathy without being too cute and clearly demonstrates the plight of wild animals coming into contact with an urban environment. In Australia, we have an agency called WIRES (Wildlife Information and Rescue Service) that would certainly use a shot like this - assuming it was a wombat or possum rather than a racoon!
