Another tragic victim of traffic, ... lucky you where there to take this picture so that it's death wasn't in vain. ( btw technicaly picture looks OK to me, cropping, lighting, etc. )

I was ready one of the comments that says "There's beauty in death". Frankly I don't see this photo as "beauty". I come from a small town where deer are hunted every year and I disagree with the killing of such beautiful creatures. I believe nature should and does take care of animal populations. To me this shot is great because it is "Sad". We should have more respect for all life. A photographer's job is to capture truth. You did that very well.
Keep it up.

This photo hurts my heart. I do not care for the "artfully" arranged leaves, the too bright blood, the wide open eyes...
Real blood, once exposed to air turns a deep maroon within minutes.... here the blood pattern is widespread, but no wounds are visible...... a deer killed immediately by a car has eyes that are half-lidded....a deer in pain has the wide-with-fear/pain eyes as depicted here.....the blue cast to the eye comes considerably after death.... if leaves were blown in by the wind to surround the body, it would take some measure of time, and the blood would not be so bright.........
I am in somewhat agreement with AG.... it is more humane to kill with a bullet, quickly, mercifully, than to "roadkill" due to an excess of deer in the path of inattentive humans.

Roadkill? ohhh my heart.... The title multiplies the pain of the photograph. However, as far as technique, you have produced a good photograph.

powerful image Leslie - well composed giving the feeling of seeing the deer alive and standing in a different setting (for me) - a sombre reminder to look at life differently..

Leslie - Great capture - Unfortunate for the deer, but it is the reality of man and nature.

I give you a lot of credit for posting this. I have no problem with the composition, lighting, etc. All seem fine to me.

This shot portrays the senseless and inhumane practice of 'killing' vs. 'hunting'. There is no honor in death by auto for the deer. It is wasted and left to rot. Usually no quick kill and honorable transition from life to meat and hide and bone. Much more humane to allow the herds to be thinned by those who will utilize what they kill.

Shots like this are the best 'pro-hunting' advertisements I can think of.

Quite the morbed photograph; although, it seems to be done with a great attention to detail.

Excellent compisitions. Love, the color "RED" and "Mustard brown/yellow"

Always wait for the light to change I said, but do they listen!??

Good shot with great color around the animal. Even has a little frown on the poor things face. I think the composition and cropping are just fine.

Good catch!
Hope it wasn't you that was involved.

Very well done but sad photograph. Certainly evokes emotion.
Almost seems to say there is beauty in death.

Well, Leslie,
there certainly is a lot of emotion in that one. Technically speaking, I'm not sure about the framing. The body makes a huge spot at the right of the image, creating an unbalanced image (impression that it tilts to the left). I think you should try cropping the image untill that's corrected.
Nice capture.
Regards.

Excellent shot but too dramatic for my taste.
