dear antonella, thank you very much for your constructive comment. i love to meet purists in photography because there are too many around who declare their work as photography while they have done a lot of work in the computer. so far so bad. well, night photography. if you care for looking around you will find out that not only i do handheld pictures for producing blurred effects, others do that as well. they are still night photos. i am a purist, yes, very much for straight photography, available light and all. but at the same time i dare and endeavour to use my camera to the utmost extent, e.g. panning, blurring, out of focus and double and multi exposure, what have you. and there is nobody keeping me from this, especially not by proposing to take a tripod and a cable push button. if i want that sort of night still i surely know where to borrow. i admire you for being so versatile in technique and history. i would very much love to have a leica but i don't as yet. and mind you, i even don't know what a super what's its name is. do i need that for taking a night photo? i tell you another thing i will not do: i will not declare a picture a night photo that clearly shows late daylight like your 'country fair at night. we will have more chances to discuss night photography lateron when i will have uploaded a few of my night series. most of them handheld btw. i hope you don't mind. i am glad we have met for a real factual discussion. best regards charlie.f.kohn@sixpence-pictures.com // madrid
Talking about night photography....dear Charlie,I appreciate your work but this one....well...what kind of photograph is it? It's completely out of focus,you should have mounted the camera on the tripod. As your comment on mine,let me tell you that when you are talking about night photography it includes photos made at dusk,meaning that some light is still available,otherwise,you set your camera on long exposures and shoot on tripod and possibly with a cable push button. Mine,as I specified ( and I have many of them taken at the same time ) was shot just after sunset and you should tell by looking at the lights of the lamps in the pictures. How on earth could you shoot hand-held at 10 seconds???? Don't you know that below 1/30 the picture is likely to be out of focus? Let me tell you another thing...have you ever got the chance of using a Superangulon lens mounted on a Leica camera? I guess not,otherwise you wouldn't have written such a comment.
