Roger, You are correct. I spent most of my time in editing the image to try and reduce the impact of the shadows. I could have changed my focus to accentuate the shadows. In its original format, the image is sharper and considerably larger (3Mb). Thanks for the comment and ideas! Regards, Mike

Hi Francis, I reckon I would of made the shadows the subject, plus it may need to be a tad sharper, regards Roger PS here is a very quick version

Beautiful theme! Wel composed. Just touch of sharpness will increased the shadow lines and in addition with contrast you will receive excellent definition..this is another way to use PS to your advantage. Very good image and work! Regards, Rafal

Your eyes see into the shadows far more than any film can. So what you see as mild shadows the film sees as very dark shadows. Fill flash can be helpful but this is kind of a big area to light that way. Far better would be to come on a slightly hazy or slightly cloudy day, or just after a rainstorm, when the light is very gentle and there are almost no shadows anywhere.

I thought I had commented on this photo but don't see it. You could have tried flash fill-in. Some cameras do a pretty good job and others seem to give hot spots. How about toning down the contrast in photoshop?

Take earlier or later in the day when the sun has moved around, or a cloudy day. Also train yourself to look carefully at the lighting and shadows as this is the way forward for better images.

The problem with this photo is the bright sunlight. If you have the opportunity to go back on a light cloudy day and retake the image I think you would get a much better photo. The setting is lovely and the compostion good.

A very nice, colourful spot you captured here!! :) I wonder how it would look if the coloured part of the ground wasn't cropped, but I'm not so sure about it. The place looks as if shadows couldn't be avoided at any time of the day, so I guess there's not too much to do about it...? Nevertheless it's a nice capture and the colours are very pleasing :) Regards :)
